BR 2SEBREE, Ky. (6/21/19) — Big Rivers Electric Corp. employee volunteers partnered with Webster County to create and complete a new mural for downtown Sebree recently.

The mural, which is located at the corner of Main and Spring Street, is designed to look like a giant postcard from Webster County, company officials reported. Teams of volunteers sketched and painted the mural, and then put in new landscaping at the adjacent city-owned lot, all in three days this month.

More than 20 Big Rivers employees donated their time and skills to the project, partnering with Webster County’s Community and Economic Development Director Summer Crick. Crick developed the concept, while Big Rivers provided the supplies and the labor to bring the mural to life. Last week, a team of volunteers painted a new base layer on the building and began the early tracing for the mural lettering. Today, a second team painted in the outlined letters, carefully framed new features and added some finishing touches.

The Sebree mural serves as Big Rivers’ 2019 Beautify the Bluegrass project. This statewide initiative was launched in 2017 as a partnership between Governor Matt Bevin’s office, Kentucky Living Magazine and Kentucky’s electric cooperatives.

Big Rivers is an electric generation and transmission cooperative, with more than 400 workers at five western Kentucky locations. The Beautify the Bluegrass program encourages all Kentuckians to join cleanup and improvement projects in their hometowns.

The Sebree mural and corner landscaping represent the first phase in a larger improvement project, the company says. Organizers are hoping to add picnic tables and a shelter to the empty lot later this year.
