map300 websterWEBSTER COUNTY, Ky. (2/25/19) —  The Department for Local Government announced the city of Sebree has been awarded a $910,827 Community Development Block Grant.

The federal funds will allow the city to replace 8,900 linear feet of existing clay pipe, manholes and appurtenances as well as add new PVC line to serve four new customers. The pipes currently in place were installed in 1964 and have surpassed their intended life expectancy, state officials reported.

“As the system ages, the city of Sebree becomes increasingly vulnerable to pipe failure,” DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo said. “I’m pleased to award these funds to assist with sewer line replacement, which will help reduce public health risk and possible environmental damage associated with sewer overflows.”

In addition to the CDBG funding, the city has secured a $227,707 grant and a $683,121 loan, each from the USDA Office of Rural Development.

“I’d like to thank the DLG and all involved in the securing of this funding,” Sen. Robby Mills said. “Without it, the city of Sebree would have to rely more heavily on ratepayers to fund these important sewer system improvements. I’m appreciative of these grant funds.”

“This critical project will bring relief to households that have been affected by sewer overflows, and improve service for hundreds of our citizens,” Rep. Jim Gooch said. “This investment will have a tremendous impact on our community, and I’m grateful to the Department for Local Government for their support of Webster County.”
