The detour is listed as Kentucky 2837/Rock Spring Road, Kentucky 270 and Kentucky 132 for passenger vehicles. Trucks should use an appropriate state route, KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd reported tonight.

WEBSTER COUNTY, Ky. (2/21/19) — Drivers regularly traveling along a section of Kentucky 109 in Webster County are asked to be aware floodwaters may force it to close, between Wheatcroft and Clay, possibly by dark tonight, state highway officials reported.

Currently, Kentucky 109 is open to traffic, with water over the road signs posted, between mile-markers 10.6 to 11.2 at the east edge of the Wheatcroft community, KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd reported. State Highway personnel are on site monitoring rising water levels.

The Shawneetown gauge was at 48.72 at 12:30 p.m., today, as water has edged out onto Kentucky 109 in a curve near the Caney Creek Bridge, Todd said. The river is expected to rise almost one-half feet by midnight tonight. Based on that projection, this section of Kentucky 109 would have to close around 6:00 p.m. It may have to close sooner based on how fast floodwaters rise at the site.

KYTC personnel on site are optimistic they can keep traffic moving until about 6 p.m., Todd said, to help folks get home on the afternoon commute. However, it is possible floodwaters could force the roadway to close sooner.

Drivers who regularly travel Kentucky 109, between Sullivan and Clay, should make appropriate alternate travel plans, Todd said. KYTC will attempt to provide timely notice when the roadway is forced to close.
