KY69CapSealOhio082819OHIO COUNTY, Ky. (8/30/19) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has established a work zone along a section of Kentucky 69 North of Hartford in Ohio County.

This work zone for cape sealing work runs along Kentucky 69 from mile point 15.99 near the entrance to Ohio County Park extending northward to the Round Hill Road intersection at mile point 19.9, a distance of about 3.9 miles.

The contractor will initially place a cape seal layer on the existing asphalt. A 25 mile per hour speed limit will be in place during this initial phase of the project. After the cape seal is allowed to cure for 3 to 10 days, the contractor will return to place a final asphalt driving surface on this section of KY 69.

Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic.

Cape sealing is an industrial-strength multi-phase version of the sealing process commonly used on asphalt driveways. This preventative maintenance process is a cost-effective way to extend the life of asphalt pavement.

Scottys Contracting is the prime contractor on this $278,289 highway maintenance project. The work is expected to take about four to six weeks to complete, weather permitting.
