KSP Grant Shouse Party 1BEAVER DAM, Ky. (2/19/16) — A Beaver Dam boy celebrated his birthday, and being cancer free, with a surprise party thrown by Ohio County law enforcement and the Kentucky State Police.

Grant Shouse, the son of Tony and Shellie Shouse, was the guest of honor at a surprise party last night at Lil’ Stevie’s Pizza. Officers from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, Beaver Dam Police Department, Hartford Police Department and the KSP were on hand for the celebration. The officers threw the party for Grant, who had been battling cancer for almost seven months.

Grant was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in July of 2015. Burkitt’s Lymphoma is a fast growing cancer capable of doubling in size as quick as every 14 hours. He was admitted quickly to Kosair Children’s Hospital, where chemo treatments began.

Grant celebrated his ninth birthday on Feb. 13, after being told his latest scans were “clear.” He had port removal surgery soon after and started school yesterday.

The Shouses moved to Beaver Dam from Georgetown, Ky., in March of 2015. Tony Shouse is the pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Shellie Shouse is the Executive Director of the Revenue Cycle at Owensboro Health. The Shouses also has a five year-old daughter, Anna Belle.

Grant received his own badge at the party and got to ride shotgun in Trooper Eric Browning’s cruiser.
