DCPS Color CURRENTDAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (9/20/19) — The Daviess County Public Schools Preschool program has received a grant from the Public Life Foundation of Owensboro that will allow the district to pilot the Teaching Strategies Gold Creative Curriculum at West Louisville Elementary School, with a goal of taking this program to all DCPS elementary schools in the future.

The $2,726 grant will cover the cost of the license for Creative Curriculum Standard for 40 students at WLES and the “Building Your Community Classroom” guide, as well as professional development for the classroom instructor.

The Creative Curriculum is a research-based program that will provides teachers with everything they need to address every area of learning area in the preschool environment. It is based on 38 objectives created for the social-emotional, language, cognitive, and physical, literacy, math, science and technology, social studies, the arts, and English Language acquisition. It offers preschool students opportunities for hands-on exploration and discovery helps build lifelong critical thinking skills. The program is designed to provide the teacher with the tools needed to encourage and support every type of learner and address all the important areas of learning.

The kit comes with Daily Resources, designed to help teachers integrate the curriculum in every part of preschool students’ day; and formal teaching guides that assist teachers in developing meaningful and engaging experiences for all children. The program also focuses on adapting activities to meet the needs of all children and includes “Mighty Minutes,” which provides activities for transition times to make the most of every moment in the classroom setting. The kit also includes children’s books and discussion cards that promote literacy and social skills during read-aloud times.

DCPS preschool coordinator Chris Westerfield said, “We are so appreciative of the Public Life Foundation of Owensboro for this grant! We look forward to studying the results and the positive impact that this program will make to our students now and the years to come.”
