senior at mallMcLEAN COUNTY, Ky. (9/22/19) — Hundreds of area senior citizens are expected to fill Owensboro’s Towne Square Mall on Thursday,

September 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for the 20th annual “Senior Day Out.”

The annual event provides valuable information to help equip seniors in recognizing fraud and empowers them to avoid falling prey to current scams targeting seniors. Senior Day Out provides an opportunity for local businesses and service providers to interact with hundreds of seniors from across the GRADD region.

The serious topics are balanced with fun entertainment provided by local talent. This year’s featured performers will include musical guests Grayson Bryant (as Buddy Holly), Kelly Turley, and Larry Maglinger (as Rod Stewart). Area seniors will model the latest fall fashion from JC Penney, Macy’s, and Maurices. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact in some fun games, testing their scam-prevention knowledge.

Senior Day Out is an event of the Green River Regional TRIAD, a group consisting of local law enforcement, senior service agencies, and older adults who work together to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly. The local TRIAD serves Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster Counties by offering educational material, programs, and activities such as the annual Senior Day Out event.

New this year is a partnership with Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. In addition to a presentation about fall prevention for seniors, OHRH will conduct a Sloppy Slipper Exchange. Seniors are encouraged to bring in an old pair of house shoes/slippers (or any ill-fitting, worn out footwear) to be exchanged for a nightlight.

Melissa Polites, Union County Aging Coordinator states, “TRIAD can make a difference in the lives of seniors by building strong relationships with law enforcement, keeping both seniors and those who serve them abreast of current fraud and scam trends, and equipping seniors to take action when faced with fraud and other dangers.”

This year’s event is sponsored by Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, Atmos Energy, Aramark, Help at Home, Humana, Miracle Ear, and ADT Health. For more details, please contact Libby Watson at (270) 926-4433.
