fatal collision 3 300LIVERMORE, Ky. (5/21/19) — A McLean County man died and two others injured when a 2001 Mercury Marquis collided with a Kubota UTV late this afternoon just north of Livermore.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King said the accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m., when Phillip R. Atherton, 72, and Phillip C. Atherton, 44, both of Livermore were traveling in the UTV and stopped at Barrett Hill Road and U.S. 431 about 4 miles north of Livermore.

Elmo L. West, 87 of Utica was headed north on U.S. 431 and Phillip R. Atherton apparently failed to see West coming and pulled out into his path, said officials.

Phillip R. Atherton was pronounced dead at the scene by the McLean County Coroner's Office. Phillip C. Atherton and West were both injured and taken by ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where both were listed this evening as being in critical condition.

KSP troopers were also assisted by McLean County Sheriff's Department, Livermore and Central District fire departments.

KSP's investigation is continuing.
