mcleanCALHOUN, Ky. (4/1/19) — The McLean County Chamber of Commerce learned about the rise in the number of deaths related to opioid use in the U.S., state and region during its noon luncheon meeting Thursday. The group also voted during its annual officers election.

Representatives of Health First spoke about treatment options available to help fight opiate addictions including the use of Vivitrol. Ronnah Alexander, RPH, said addiction is a disease that affects how the brain works and affects behavior.

Jenna Jerger explained some of the services offered by Health First as well as its sliding fee, which is based on income, for medical services.

In chamber business, the following officers were elected: president, Amanda Dame; first vice-president Mark Melloy; second vice-president Steven Caudill; treasurer, Sarah Back; secretary, Julie Newton; and members at large, Van Helton and Joey Lowery.

Announcements included that tickets are available for the chamber’s annual banquet, which is at 6 p.m. April 25 at Buck Creek Baptist Church fellowship hall; there will be a decorating contest for those decorating their sponsored tables at the banquet; the chamber’s sponsorship levels of membership has been revamped and information is available by calling the chamber offie at (270) 273-9760; and, the chamber’s annual golf tournament has been scheduled for Sept. 6 at Ben Hawes State Park.
