AmbulanceST. CHARLES, Ky. (2/20/20) — A 52-year-old Dawson Springs woman riding a horse was injured after a vehicle struck the horse and rider along the 8000 block of U.S. 62/Nortonville Road Wednesday night.

The horse died at the scene and the woman was taken to Baptist Health Madisonville via Medical Center Ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reported dispatchers received numerous calls around 8:20 p.m. concerning a woman, identified as Judith Henderson, wearing dark clothing riding a horse on the highway.

Numerous deputies arrived in the area, but before she could be located, the horse and Henderson were struck by a 2001 Ford Ranger driven by Leon Smith, 82 of Nortonville, Deputy Josh Gunn wrote. Smith was not injured during the incident.

St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department assisted.
