TysonHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (1/10/20) — A regional employer has provided scholarship funds that will go to students attending Madisonville Community College.

Tyson Foods Inc., located in Robards, presented a check for $3,000 Thursday to the Community Improvement Foundation.

CIF president Tim Thomas said he appreciates Tyson's continued support of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship fund that helps worthy students at MCC.

“Each year, we try to provide scholarships to two individuals needing financial assistance,” Thomas said. “Tyson has been a big supporter of the community event.”

Scholarship recipients will be named during the annual MLK Day celebration at Byrnes Auditorium Jan. 18. Two $1,500 scholarships have been awarded each year over the past decade through CIF, and the recipients are selected by an MCC committee.

Mary Jane Young, complex human resources manager for Tyson Foods Inc,, said the company was pleased with the opportunity to again be able to sponsor the community improvement project and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. scholarships.

“Part of our vision aligns not only with the food pantries, but also the education of the children in our counties,” Young said.
