Madisonville Seal 02 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (11/22/19) — Silver Star restaurant off North Main Street in Madisonville has reopened after it was shut down by fire officials this week.

According to a Madisonville Fire Department report, firefighters were called 3:52 p.m. Wednesday to check for a natural gas leak. Earlier during the day, a Madisonville city worker was eating lunch and noticed a gas smell inside the building, and then notified Code Enforcement Officer Mike Phillips.

Phillips notified MFD crews, who used a combustible gas meter that sounded as soon as firefighters entered the restaurant, the report indicated. The building was immediately evacuated and all appliances were turned off. Ladder 2 was called out to respond and crews made a quick decision to turn off the gas meter.

MFD reported Atmos Energy arrived on scene, and following an investigation, officials determined Silver Star had several issues. A certified plumber was called to assist in recommending needed repairs, and the business was temporarily closed.
