garden planting pinkdaisyMADISONVILLE, Ky. (9/20/19) — Pennyroyal Master Gardeners 20th Anniversary Celebration is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hopkins County Extension Office, 75 Cornwall Drive in Madisonville.

Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield plans to sign a proclamation today to designate Thursday as Master Gardener Day.

The Master Gardeners report committing more than 2,000 educational hours to the community at Farmers Market, Hopkins County Fair, plant exchange workshops, school programs and Habitat for Humanity events each year.

Their trial garden began in 2014 that includes more than 100 types of plants, and the Masters have donated more than 10,000 pounds of produce grown in the Community Garden at First Christian Church since 2011. The food is given to Hopkins County Christian Food Bank.

The group meets the fourth Thursday each month. To become a Master Gardener, call (270) 821-3650.
