kystatepoliceimage 300HANSON, Ky. (9/10/19) — A driver allegedly high on meth speeding through Hopkins County on I-69 caught the attention of a trooper Sunday night.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Jacob Stephens was on patrol for Post 2, when he saw a 2002 tan Chevy Impala near mile-marker 122 going southbound at a “high rate of speed and operating recklessly” at 9:43 p.m., according to a KSP report.

The trooper made a traffic stop on the vehicle, with a man identified as Brook Simpson, 29 of Downsville, Louisiana, behind the wheel.

KSP reported Stephens later discovered the vehicle was listed as stolen out of Louisiana. Simpson also was found in be in possession of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Simpson was charged with DUI, speeding 26 mph over limit, reckless driving, receiving stolen property, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
