surfky umbrella 300WESTERN Ky. (1/10/20) — The National Weather Service in Paducah predicts widespread, heavy rain across the region after midnight.

A flash flood watch is currently in effect including a slight risk of severe thunderstorms west of the Mississippi River, weather experts reported. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid 60s by noon Saturday.

Damaging winds are listed as the main threat though an isolated tornado or two is possible as the system sweeps across western Kentucky. A wind advisory also has been issued for the overnight hours, with gusts possibly reaching 40 mph.

NWS indicates a flash flood watch remains in effect through Saturday afternoon, with heavy rain possible through the morning. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph into Saturday afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms could move into the area Tuesday and Wednesday followed by a more seasonal forecast for Wednesday night, with light snow showers possible.
