HCPLHENDERSON, Ky. (10/12/19) — Friends of the Henderson County Public Library is hosting an annual meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Presbyterian Church of Henderson.

Lorie Maltby, Friends of the Library and Henderson Community College professor, plans to present the program, “Henderson County Public Library: A Community Endeavor.”

Maltby was originally planning a different topic for the evening, when she discovered the rich history that surrounds Andrew Carnegie’s library legacy.

“When I began my research on the history of our library, I discovered all of this background on the Carnegie library program and what he did for libraries across the nation.”

Henderson County Public Library, which turned 115 Aug. 1, is one of only a few remaining Carnegie-funded libraries in the U.S. and is still in use as a library.

Light refreshments will be provided, librarians said.
