MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (10/9/19) — Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies caught up with an escaped inmate today.

Deputy Alex Piper said Sheriff Ricki Allen and Constable Rondal Hambrick were following up on an attempt to locate 44-year-old Thomas R. Vaught at a residence on Huels Hill in Cleaton, when he was apprehended without incident.

Piper said Vaught was inside a home hiding under the bed. Muhlenberg County Jail assisted.

Vaught left work detail in a stolen Dodge Ram pickup while at the Ag Center in Powderly Monday night, Kentucky State Police Post 2 previously reported.

Vaught likely faces charges in relation to the escape.

GREENVILLE, Ky. (10/8/19) — Authorities are searching for a Muhlenberg County Jail escapee who allegedly stole a pickup at the Ag Center in Powderly and drove away.

The inmate, identified as Thomas R. Vaught, 44 of Central City, was said to have vacated work release Monday night.

Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville reported receiving a call that an inmate headed out between 9:10-9:35 p.m. Monday.

Vaught is described as a white male with gray hair, brown eyes, approximately 6-feet-1 and weighs approximately 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt with Muhlenberg County Detention Center printed on the back and orange pants.

Vaught left the Muhlenberg County Agriculture Center after stealing a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, Post 2 Trooper Rob Austin reported. The pickup has a tool box and diesel tank in the bed of the truck. The front of the vehicle has a University of Kentucky plate, and the rear of the truck bares an official license plate.
