Castlen 12 18

OWENSBORO, Ky. (12/18/19) — Kentucky League of Cities presented Sen. Matt Castlen (R-Owensboro) with a 2019 “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award at Tuesday night’s Owensboro Board of Commissioners meeting.

Castlen sponsored Senate Bill 148, a KLC initiative that allows cities using the Local Government Model Procurement Code to dispose of surplus property in the same manner as other cities.

KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney upheld Castlen for his support.

“Sen. Castlen carried legislation that helps many city governments operate more efficiently,” he said. “It is important that regulations and restrictions that impact cities are constantly reviewed to ensure they are not creating an undue burden and cost to municipalities and their taxpayers.”

Castlen stressed the important role cities play in the commonwealth.

“I am sincerely humbled by this recognition from the League of Cities,” he remarked. “The success of our state begins with local communities, and I believe that passing good legislation that gives our cities the ability to grow and thrive is crucial. I’m honored to represent all the cities in my district, and I will continue to support legislation that benefits the 8th District and the commonwealth as a whole.”

“I was honored to testify with Senator Castlen during the 2019 session on Senate Bill 148,” KLC Director of Governmental Affairs Bryanna Carroll stated. “The bill simply aims to ensure Kentucky cities are not faced with burdensome and unnecessary requirements. We thank Senator Castlen for advocating for its passage and look forward to working with him in the future.”

Founded in 1927, Kentucky League of Cities is a membership association of cities across the commonwealth. It awards a “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award to legislators who champion issues that are important to cities during the legislative session.
