ksp news 300SMITHLAND, Ky. (1/8/20) — Kentucky State Police reported Troopers Casey Hamby and Will Propes observed a dark blue 2015 Toyota Camry traveling north Tuesday evening along Kentucky 453 near Luka at a high rate of speed.

Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the operator failed to pull over at 5:55 p.m., according to the report. The driver attempted to turn onto Heater Store Road, but lost control, running over a road sign. The operator then put the vehicle in reverse and continued driving on Heater Store Road. The vehicle turned on Ramage Cemetery Road, and then parked at 715 Ramage Cemetery Road with the lights turned off and the driver and passenger still inside. Troopers conducted a felony traffic stop at which point the driver and passenger were detained.

The driver, Tevin M. Nicander, 20, of Cary, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing police, third-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene an an accident and other traffic offenses. Nicander was taken to McCracken County Jail. The passenger, Alex M. Adams, 20, of Fort Campbell, was released from the scene. Trooper Hamby is continuing the investigation.
