Vehicle Pursuit 01 300HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (12/16/19) — The driver of a Ford Mustang alleged to be speeding northbound along Pennyrile Parkway in Hopkinsville caught the attention of a trooper on patrol 8:44 p.m. Sunday.

Kentucky State Police Post 2 reports Trooper Brett Martin initiated the lights on his cruiser to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped onward and came to a stop on Western Hills Boulevard. Afterward, the driver got out and fled on foot.

Hopkinsville Police Department officers and Christian County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to aid the trooper in apprehending the driver, identified as Wilford Smith, 36 of Hopkinsville.

Smith was charged with speeding 26 mph or greater than the limit, reckless driving, first- and second-degree fleeing police, no insurance, DUI, resisting arrest and improper display of registration plate.
