HCP 1HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (12/16/19) — A record-breaking Hopkinsville Electric System-EnergyNet Christmas Parade brought thousands of spectators downtown Saturday night, adding to a spectacular #HopkinsChill Weekend.

With 103 units entered, it was the largest Parade in the past decade, city of Hopkinsville Division of Parks and Recreation reported. According to Pam Rudd, who has been with the department 48 years, it was the first time the parade has eclipsed the 100-unit mark since Parks and Rec began overseeing it just over three decades ago.

Top honors went to Rogers Group, which was named HES-EnergyNet Christmas Parade Grand Champion.

Of the many unique and beautifully-decorated entries, Stewart Richey Construction was also a big winner Saturday, taking home the Best Business Award and the WKDZ/WHVO People’s Choice Award, as voted on by spectators via text message. The visually-stunning Stewart Richey float had a Toy Story theme, including music and characters.

Stewart Richey wins $500 as part of the People’s Choice Award recognition.

Jones Brothers Towing and Trucking was chosen as runner-up in the Parade’s traditional float category, while Little River Missionary Baptist Church was presented with the Spirit Award.

The inaugural Golf Cart Division — sponsored by Western Hills Golf Course — created a lot of buzz on Main Street and produced over a dozen entries in its first year. Christian Care Communities, using a “Gifts of Compassion” theme, was the first-ever division champion, earning the group $150.

Lamb’s Funeral Home (The Grinch) and Harlee’s Garage (Sleigh Ride) earned second-place ($100) and third-place ($50) recognition, respectively.

“The HES-EnergyNet Christmas Parade only continues to get bigger and better, and we are so appreciative to everyone who went to the time and expense to provide our spectators a first-class experience,” said Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman. “We believe the Golf Cart Division was a big hit in its first year, and will only grow in 2020. We can’t wait to see what’s in store next holiday season.”
