christmas city st rdsHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (12/13/19) — The HES-EnergyNet Christmas Parade featuring Grand Marshal and Hopkinsville Community College President Dr. Alissa Young will take to the streets for a nighttime extravaganza beginning 5:15 p.m. Saturday in Hopkinsville.

The parade route, set to head south on Main Street, winding its way from Glass Avenue to 13th Street through festive downtown, will be full of parade floats and, for the first time, Christmas-themed and decorated golf carts, city officials reported.

In its first year, the Christmas Parade Golf Cart Division, sponsored by Western Hills Municipal Golf Course, allows for entries that are not as cost or time-consuming, but that will still allow participants to join in the fun, city organizers said. Cash awards will be given for traditional floats and golf carts. WKDZ/WHVO are also back in 2019 to sponsor the “People’s Choice Award,” given to the large float that is voted on by the public.

Other local events during #HopkinsChill Weekend include the Downtown Christmas Market Square, where goodies, holiday-handcrafted items and seasonal foods will be on display and available for purchase from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday. Additionally, the Woody Winfree Fire-Transportation Museum’s Holiday Open House is set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Grinch will be making an appearance at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, reading “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” during a free event. Grinch coloring books will be sold for $5.

Down the street, The Alhambra Theatre also has a pair of events #HopkinsChill Weekend, including a free movie screening of The Polar Express at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Christmas with the Annie Moses Band at 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for the Sunday, Dec. 15 show are $45 and now on sale at
