ChristianCounty Event 300HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (12/7/19) — Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is providing a new Career Help section on its website.

Elysa Parks, Outreach Librarian, stated, “Finding a job and improving career skills can be a daunting task. We wanted to create a one-stop shop for building a resume, studying for high school equivalency and/or career exams, and improving professional skills.”

This page features eight databases, including Career Center, where visitors can prepare for professional exams and obtain information about a particular profession and computer skills including videos to learn computer skills, from basics to word processing, spreadsheets and more, Parks explained. Each database offers something unique to help people find the right career.

“The recent closure of one of Hopkinsville’s oldest employers inspired the library staff to find a way to provide career assistance to the community, library director DeAnna Sova said. These databases are not new to HCCPL, but unless you are specifically looking for employment aids, the general public may not know the information is available at their fingertips. Elysa created an additional landing page that provides much easier access for patrons. HCCPL has 22 computers available to the public, and staff are trained to assist patrons in navigating the databases.”

To start using these resources today, visit http://hccpl.org/research/career-help/ from home or at the library. Some databases may ask for a library card number to log in. That number can be found on the back of library cards, whick are free to anyone who lives or works in Christian County.
