Congressman Comer PortraitWASHINGTON, D.C. (1/23/20) — U.S. Rep. James Comer's office reports the EPA and Army are delivering on President Trump’s promise to remove crippling regulations on American farmers by issuing the Navigable Waters Protection Rule.

Today, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works R.D. James announced a new definition for “waters of the United States”. This revised definition for WOTUS will protect farmers from excessive government intrusion, protect the nation’s navigable waters and create economic growth across the country, according to a press release.

Comer applauded the Trump Administration’s action, noting that farmers would benefit from less burdensome regulations, and released the following statement today:

“Our farmers have suffered under the heavy-handed regulations put into place by the Obama Administration. Now, President Trump’s plan of deregulation and ending inconsistent regulatory patchwork is becoming a reality through this new definition of WOTUS. Farmers and businesses across the nation have been in need of a consistent regulatory framework that allows them to function with clarity and predictability. Finally repealing the 2015 Rule will foster regulatory consistency and allow for important projects to move forward. I’m proud to support President Trump’s plan and I look forward to the effects of this new definition on Kentucky’s agriculture and inland waterway industries.”
