muhl mustangs1 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/8/19) — Muhlenberg County pulled away to beat Rockwood (Tenn.) 7-1 in the Thoroughbred Cup at Thompson-Berry Soccer Complex on Saturday.

Girls' high school soccer teams from bordering states, Muhlenberg County and Rockwood met for the first time.

Abby Dukes scored three goals to lead Muhlenberg County to the victory. Accompanying Dukes in the Lady Mustangs' scoring column, Hannah Slaughter, Taylor Cornette and Brooklyn Whitehouse netted one goal apiece.

Rilen Gettings and Filippa Kingdon distributed two assists apiece while Whitehouse and Kendall Piper pushed out one assist each.

Goalkeeper Kyley Byrd led Muhlenberg County defensively, registering 14 saves while limiting Rockwood to only one goal.

In another girls' high school soccer match on Saturday, Lincoln County (Tenn.) shut out the Lady Mustangs 7-0.

Muhlenberg County exited the Thoroughbred Cup with a 5-5 record.
